The highest peak in the Nanaimo area at 1006m with panoramic views of the Gulf Islands, Strait of Georgia, and Coastal Mountains from the summit. The most popular route via Westwood Lake is approximately 12km return with 800m elevation gain. A challenging but rewarding day hike through forest with rocky alpine terrain near the top.

Tips

  • Start early — the hike takes 4-6 hours return depending on fitness
  • Bring lots of water and snacks — there are no services on the trail
  • The summit is exposed and can be windy and cold even in summer
  • Cell service is unreliable on the upper mountain

  • Trails do NOT have great signage, be prepared.
  • This is a strenuous hike — moderate to high fitness required
  • Trail can be icy and dangerous in winter — check conditions
  • Download a trail map or use GPS — intersecting trails can be confusing
