About

Nanaimo's most impressive waterfall tucked inside a forested canyon. The trail from the Weigles Road lot is 1.5km to the falls (or 2.5km from Creekside Place). A recently built staircase leads down to the viewing platform at the base. The falls are named after fossils found in the surrounding sedimentary rock.

Tips

  • Visit November to April for the strongest waterfall flow — it can be a trickle in dry summer months
  • The Weigles Road trailhead is shorter and more scenic
  • Stairs down to the falls are steep and can be slippery when wet
  • Do not park on the forest service road or you may be towed

Know Before You Go

  • Trail can be very muddy in wet months — waterproof footwear recommended
  • This is a working forest — be aware of possible logging activity
  • Not stroller or wheelchair accessible
  • Dogs are allowed off-leash in some areas
