About

One of the most awe-inspiring and accessible old-growth forests in British Columbia, Cathedral Grove protects ancient Douglas fir trees over 800 years old and 80 metres tall. Two short loop trails on either side of Highway 4 take about 45 minutes combined and require almost no elevation gain. The largest trees are on the south side, while the north side skirts the shore of Cameron Lake among ancient western red cedar.

Tips

  • Parking fills fast in summer — arrive before 9am or after 4pm
  • Exercise caution crossing Highway 4 between the two trail sides; concrete barriers were installed in 2025 but traffic is heavy
  • Skip visits on very windy days — falling branches are a real hazard in old-growth

Know Before You Go

  • No facilities on trail; outhouses only at the parking area
  • Smoking strictly prohibited throughout the park
  • Not suitable for road cycling — walking only
